Choosing myself

Describe one positive change you have made in your life.

We are all in this circle of what I called “external everything”. Right from birth we are subconsciously trained to choose everything except ourselves. We were made to accept that choosing ourselves was “selfish”, unkind and evil while glorifying choosing others even to our detriment.

The effect was that we channel all our energy chasing the impossible; no matter how hard you try, you can not please people and you will never be happy because you continue seeing yourself as a failure.

Just as most people, I was in that draining and self-destructive rat race until I discovered that happiness can only flow from within to outside and not the other way around.

I started putting myself and happiness first and surprisingly I found out that people started taking me more seriously and treating me more respectfully.

I started loving myself and found out that people started showing me more love. I learnt that I should show people how to love me by the way I love myself  and not waiting for an external person to come love me the way I wanted.

Since then, I have taken charge of my life and found the peace I have been looking for but which had remained elusive.

I now measure my success and failures in my own terms not based on templates set by anybody or system.

Now I can say that I’m happy and fulfilled each night as I lay on my bed to take stock of the day.
